The DPDP Act 2023 — What You Need to Know

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 received Presidential assent on 11 August 2023. The DPDP Rules 2025, published on 13 November 2025, put several key provisions into operation. Businesses have a limited window to achieve compliance before obligations fully take effect. Key elements include:

Consent Manager Framework — Rules on consent managers take effect after one year. Organisations must ensure lawful basis for processing.
Data Breach Notification — Mandatory notification to the Data Protection Board and affected individuals within prescribed timelines.
